Pilates

Joseph Pilates is the founder of the exercise concept known as Pilates. From Germany originally, he was a fitness enthusiast who worked in a number of countries and occupations. It is believed that during World War I he worked as a nurse, during this time he used springs on hospital beds allowing patients to exercise and found that it seemed to decrease recovery time. This is how the Pilates reformer and trapeze table where developed. Eventually Joseph Pilates moved to America where he developed a Pilates clinic and gained a following from the dance and performing arts community.

A multitude of physiotherapy evidence has shown that exercise based treatment is required for an optimal recovery of clients. The notion of increasing “core” strength has become the most appropriate form of exercise for many conditions now and this is where the Pilates concept can be applied.

By customising a distinct set of exercises to each individual patient Pilates exercises can not only decrease pain, but also increase function leading to an increased speed of recovery.

At Physionorth Jaquelin and Luke have completed the DMA Clinical Pilates Level One and Two courses, and all physiotherapists are Physionorth have received pilates training.

Physionorth Pilates classes

Physionorth offers pilates classes run by Exercise Physiologist Ella Rose Kosick. All participants have a pre-screening evaluation with a physiotherapist prior to the commencement of classes so that the exercises can be tailored to each individual. It also makes Ella aware of any pre-existing injuries and the participant’s goals. Classes are offered in groups of 3-4 in the clinic and include mat work, pilates ring exercises and reformer exercises. The classes strengthen your core musculature and help improve posture, increase flexibility and decrease aches and pains.  For further information on class times contact Physionorth on 47240768
