Dry Needling / Acupuncture

Dry Needling and Musculoskeletal Acupuncture are expanding practices amongst physiotherapists, who use these techniques to help ease pain and release muscle tension. At Physionorth it is used to compliment other forms of Physiotherapy treatment and each patient’s suitability for acupuncture treatment is determined on a case by case basis.

Dry Needling, is often used in the treatment of myofascial pain. It involves inserting an acupuncture needle into a trigger point (an area of contracted knots) to release the muscle. Dry Needling treatment can also assist with pain relief and stimulate a natural healing effect.

Acupuncture involves inserting the needle into specific points in the body and leaving them for a period of 20-30minutes. This form of treatment stimulates an increase in blood flow to the area being treated and the release of your body’s natural anti inflammatory and pain relieving substances.

The risks of Dry Needling and Musculoskeletal Acupuncture are minor and your therapist will explain these in full prior to treatment. Single use sterile needles are used at Physionorth. Jaquelin, Shannon, Ebonney and Luke have all completed an APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) approved course in Dry Needling and musculoskeletal acupuncture.
